HISTORY

In the heart of the Marche region, not far from the famous Frasassi Caves, among the splendid medieval villages lies the production area of the Verdicchio di Matelica, which in addition to being a wine is the story of a territory and - for the locals above all - represents a real "way of being". To be included among the few varieties of white-berry vines that can boast a completely autochthonous history, that of verdicchio is a grape dating back to the 8th century BC, and the Verdicchio wine itself is mentioned for the first time already in a notarial document of the 1579. Became DOC in 1967 a year earlier than the brother of the Castelli di Jesi, it is to Verdicchio di Matelica that we must recognize the leading role towards a Marche viticulture oriented to the highest quality levels. In this stage we meet the winemaking reality of Colpaola, a winery lying on the hills surrounding Monte San Vicino, with skill. Already at the time of Marcello Boldrini, a close friend of Enrico Mattei and his successor as president of Eni, the Colpaola estate tied its history to that of the Porcarelli family in the late 1960s, when the grandfather of the current owners began manage the rental company for the first time. Now led by Francesco Porcarelli and his wife Alessandra, the winery sees its vineyards stretch out at about 650 meters above sea level. On soils particularly suitable for the cultivation of Verdicchio, the plants are bred with the utmost respect for what is the balance of environment, nature, ecosystem and biodiversity, following the protocol of organic farming from 2013. In the cellar, the applied philosophy is not very far from the one adopted in the vineyard, and starting from the maximum enhancement of the best peculiarities of the raw material, it is possible to produce qualitatively impeccable labels, that is wines with their freshness, drinkability and longevity, they give elegance and harmony by telling the story of the land, the grape variety and the passion of those who produce it.
