HISTORY

It seems to be in a fairy tale. The history of the Charrère family began in 1750 and still lives today with great respect for traditions and values handed down over time. Attention to innovation and care of the territory are the engine of a company that puts soul and heart into viticulture. A place to take a break in the frame of our mountains. A harmonious space dedicated to the tasting of our wines. Starting point for a food and wine itinerary to discover our roots. Company The Les Crêtes winery was founded in 1989 in Aymavilles (Valle d'Aosta), by Costantino Charrère and is now managed by his family, owner of a historic water mill from the 1700s and the ancient cellars of Via Moulins, has been dealing with agri-food products for five generations. The cultivation area of the vineyards extends for 25 hectares along the orographic axis of the Dora Baltea in the municipalities of Saint Pierre, Aymavilles, Gressan, Sarre, Aosta and Saint Christophe. The production area, which originates in the difficult mountain area, is characterized by a high fragmentation of the vineyards and high plant densities (8,000-9,000 feet / Ha) due to the slopes of the land, whose morainic and sandy soils constitute ideal environment for the cultivation of many native and international varieties. The alpine climate strongly influences the organoleptic characteristics of local wines: the grapes, harvested late, undergo strong changes in temperature due to the autumnal temperature range (day / night + 22 ° C / 0 ° C); this phenomenon, typical of mountain areas, favors the formation of aromatic precursors in the bunch, which considerably enrich the aromatic component of the wines. The agronomic management of the vineyards, based on respect for the environment, and the enhancement of the "terroir", are focal points of a company philosophy that combines traditional cultivation techniques with a passion for innovation and technological research. The phytosanitary treatments, in line with the European programs of the sector, foresee a limited use of pesticides. The total annual production is 170,000 bottles. The largest section of vineyards develops in the "Les Crêtes" area of Aymavilles, where the panoramic Côteau la Tour hill offers its medieval tower, inhabited until the last century by a hermit in the village, today the company's symbol. It is clearly visible to the left of the Aosta west tollbooth exit, arriving from Turin. The cultivated varieties are both native (Petit Rouge, Fumin, Petite Arvine, Gros Rouge, Cornalin, Mayolet, Prëmetta) and international (Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah). The company's productive "tension" is directed towards the entire production chain, where interventions are carried out with the utmost attention and care, in the continuous search for quality. The winery is equipped with a tasting room and ample parking and is located on a panoramic site, 1 km from the Aosta Ovest motorway exit for the Mont Blanc Tunnel. Philosophy The company Les Crêtes produces its wines in a very particular context, characterized by high mountains, sandy slopes and alpine temperatures. Attention to the environment, specialized cultivation techniques combined with research and experimentation are fundamental aspects for our reality, which has an intrinsic and focused link with the surrounding habitat. Every activity is carried out with the utmost dedication and care, in relation to the quality and passion that distinguishes us. We remind you that Les Crêtes fully follows the guidelines of the European sector programs regarding phytosanitary treatments, choosing to make a reduced use of pesticides. Giving value to the territory means protecting its identity The philosophy of the company Les Crêtes continues to follow the values of past generations, valuing the "terroir" with fidelity and respect for traditions. The look, however, is always directed towards that future of innovation that allows us to fully express the potential of a mountain wine-growing area such as that of the Aosta Valley: unique and unrepeatable. The Wine Refuge The "Rifugio del Vino" a building of about 170 square meters built next to the historic winery of the company. An ambitious project, the union of wine, mountain culture and architecture. The project, which had a special mention in the international competition "The cathedrals of wine" of the magazine Il gambero Rosso, a side event of the Venice Biennale, is by the Architect Domenico Mazza of Courmayeur, the inspiration comes from the new alpine shelters. The impact is impressive, with a roof that resembles the mountains in shape and with a structure in which the windows are dominant. Upon entering you can experience a sensory experience, with an area dedicated to essences and a library with books of the Va
