Eros and Psyche
The legend of this ancient representation which is located in Piazza Armerina, represents Eros (Love) and Psyche (Beauty) who by envy of Venus are forced to love each other secretly. This passion gives birth to a daughter called Voluttà (Pleasure). This symbol wants to represent a metaphor where Eros is Gulfi, whose love for his beautiful land (Psyche) gives birth to his wines that are an expression of pure pleasure (Voluttà).
The purest essence of Sicilian wine: the sapling! It is the only form of vine cultivation that allows, in such an extreme climate, to obtain wines of great finesse and complexity, which integrates perfectly with the natural environment and which does not require invasive chemical products and irrigation. A sapling vineyard is difficult to manage, cultivation is totally manual: but it is from here that the journey begins in our territory.
The districts of Pachino
Our wines come from old vines in the most ancient and renowned districts of Pachino, in Val di Noto: Maccari, Bufaleffi, Baroni and San Lorenzo. And here are born our Cru: Neromaccarj, Nerobufaleffj, Nerobaronj and Nerosanlorè, authentic expressions of the territories that generate them.
Who has never dreamed of growing a vineyard suspended in the sky?
This is where our Reseca is born, from a small, ancient vineyard of Nerello Mascalese in the Randazzo area, 850 meters high. Exclusively from vines trained as saplings, climbing up the Etna mountain in black lava stone terraces, which have their roots in the primordial soil of the highest volcano in Europe: Etna.
Our main commitment is to be custodians of our territory and to continue a viticulture that respects the environment, in balance with the ecosystem that surrounds it. The native vines, adapted for centuries to these lands, non-irrigated sapling cultivation and organic farming are essential factors for us to respect for what we have inherited.
Witness of a tradition
Vito Catania is the witness of the family wine and olive oil tradition, developing and increasing the already existing land patrimony and introducing innovative working criteria. The company is the result of work begun in 1996
with the precious collaboration of Salvo Foti. Today it has about 70 hectares of vineyards in the best areas of Eastern Sicily.
