William Grant & Sons Ltd. is an independent Scottish family-owned company that distills Scotch whiskey and other select categories of spirits. It was founded in 1887 by William Grant, and is now run by the descendants of the founder. It is the largest of the few Scotch whiskey distillers left family-owned. "William Grant & Sons" is often abbreviated to "W. Grant & Sons" or simply "Grant's", after their namesake whiskey of the same name. The company is the third largest producer of Scotch whiskey (10.4% market share) after Diageo (34.4%) and Pernod Ricard. The company's headquarters is located in Strathclyde Business Park, North Lanarkshire. Sales and marketing offices are located in Richmond, London. The company is a member of the Scotch Whiskey association. Grant's master blender is Brian Kinsman, who succeeded David Stewart who had been in his role for 47 years, the longest running blender with a distiller in the industry. In July 2014 it was reported that Grant donated "in the region of 100,000 pounds" to the union campaign group "Better Together" with the company that "is said to have donated small amounts of money to other groups that are campaigning for a" No "vote" in view of the referendum on Scottish independence.
