HISTORY AND COMPANY
The Fratelli Urciuolo Company was founded in 1996, encouraging years for Irpinia winemaking. Irpinia is a land traditionally dedicated to the production of fine wines, yet its ability to express this peculiarity in a tangible and widespread manner is recent history. The company is founded by two young brothers Ciro and Antonello Urciuolo, who decide to follow a dream that has always been cultivated by his father Nicola. The first part of the dream came true in 1992, when 3 hectares of Fiano were planted in Forino, at the foot of Mount Faliesi, at a height of about 450 meters. A charming area, one of the most beautiful in Irpinia, all surrounded by mountains. Forino was always considered an area of hazelnut production and had been included in the DOC area of Fiano di Avellino almost as a "mistake", but thanks to the stubbornness of the two brothers, it was possible to change the image of these lands. The choice to make wine from those grapes and to put oneself on the market with its own brand is consequent to the adventure undertaken, but at the same time it is not a simple thing. The die is cast and the 1996 harvest ends in the bottle with the Urciuolo label. At Fiano di Avellino, Greco di Tufo, Aglianico, Falanghina and Taurasi are subsequently added. The spirit is always that of those who have everything to learn, proceeding one step at a time with great and unusual humility. In 2003 the company decided to send the samples for the tasting to Gambero Rosso for the first time and the Fiano 2002 and the Taurasi 1999 were chosen, those that according to the Urciuolo Brothers could be appreciated in full and in fact the tastes recognized that in Irpinia there was a new and promising enological reality. The same Guide over the years has awarded the Urciuolo Company with the "Tre Bicchieri" on Taurasi 2005, 2006, 2007, 2010 and bringing the Fiano di Avellino to the final several times. Important and encouraging results that are not enough for Ciro and Antonello. The awareness of knowing that we still need to improve is the motivation for an ambition to be recognized for unquestionably great wines and above all emblems of typicality.
