Tenuta San Leonardo
HISTORY AND COMPANY
Set like a precious stone in the Vallagarina, between woods and mountains, Tenuta San Leonardo collects 300 hectares of land, 30 of which are cultivated with vineyards, home to Cabernet, Carmenère, Merlot, Petit Vedot, Sauvignon and Riesling. Its origins date back more than a thousand years ago, when the estate was founded by the Archiepiscopal Curia and entrusted to the Friars Crociferi, who inaugurated viticulture in the area. From the 600s the noble De Gresti family joined the friars in the management of the estate and, after having purchased it from the Church, left it as a legacy to the Gonzaga Warriors. Today the Tenuta San Leonardo is conducted with passion and enthusiasm by the Marquis Carlo Guerrieri Gonzaga together with his son Anselmo, on the right arm Luigino Tinelli and the oenologist Carlo Ferrini. The wines of Tenuta San Leonardo are born from the lands surrounding the prestigious Villa Gresti, enclosed by walls, to which is added a vineyard located in Roveré della Luna, cultivated with Sauvignon and surrounded by 270 hectares of forest. Recently all the lands of the Estate have been converted to organic farming, to preserve the precious ecosystem and to allow nature to express itself to the fullest: "The earth is the soul of our trade", Carlo Guerrieri likes to repeat. The Marquis Guerrieri Gonzaga had the merit of having written the history of quality wine in Trentino from the 1970s to the present, bringing regional wine production to levels previously unimaginable. San Leonardo is one of the most celebrated Italian reds, among the pioneers of the Bordeaux style in Italy. But even the most recent labels have shown a charismatic character and, year after year, they have achieved excellent performances, remaining faithful to an international style marked by elegance and impeccable balance.
