Tenuta Ignaz Niedrist
HISTORY AND COMPANY
Located in Ronco, an enchanting place 500 meters above sea level, not far from Cornaiano, Ignaz Niedrist's company has been producing wine since 1870. Handed down from father to son, this interesting South Tyrolean production reality boasts 9 hectares of vineyards distributed among Cornaiano (on moraine soils of glacial origin, ideal for the cultivation of pinot noir, slave and merlot) and Monte di Appiano (on calcareous soils composed of a high percentage of red clay, ideal for white varieties). Behind the labels of Ignaz Niedrist, on which the characteristic design of an owl stands out, lies a solid peasant reality, with years and years of history behind it. Ignaz Niedrist, born in 1960, is in fact the heir of a long winemaking tradition and after having acquired the right experience at the Colterenzio winery, he decided to undertake, with the support of his wife Elisabeth, his own personal activity in 1991. Today, Ignaz, man rigorous and passionate, he has led his winery to excel in the Alto Adige wine scene, and has become a real point of reference for many young colleagues who approach, just now, the world of viticulture. The wines of the Niedrist winery, thanks to the peculiarities of the land from which they are born and to the punctuality with which Ignaz carries out its work, prove to be clean and well articulated, intense and, at the same time, fresh, expressive and endowed with a unique personality recognizable. Currently, among Ignaz's products, considered examples of rare excellence, there are Lagrein, Schiava, Pinot Nero, Merlot, Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon and Riesling and all do justice to what was created by previous generations. Finally, an ecological, careful and precise management, and the great importance given to the combination of variety and soil contribute to obtaining wines of great character, with a strong and obvious link with the territory from which they come.
