HISTORY AND COMPANY
Rémy Martin is one of the oldest and most prestigious brands of cognac. It was founded in 1724 in the town of Cognac by a young winemaker from Charente, who gave it its name; a name that has become over the course of three centuries, thanks to its successors, one of the most resounding in the world of distillation. The symbol of the centaur that appears, starting from 1870, on every bottle of Remy Martin cognac is today a symbol of elegance, excellence and luxury. To guarantee maximum quality to its cognacs, since 1948, the entire production of Rémy Martin comes exclusively from the prestigious crus of Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne, territories that owe their excellence to soils rich in gypsum and limestone. From the union of the two crus the prestigious Fine Champagne cognacs are obtained, a denomination brought to the fore precisely by this maison. The quality, finesse and balance of these distillates is also due to the great skill of the master distillers and master wine-makers who succeeded one another in the last decades, among the best in their trade, all born and raised in the Charente. Unlike the other Cognac manufacturers, Rémy Martin is indeed proud to declare that the distillery was founded and has always been managed only by important personalities from the Cognac region. From 1724 to the present Rémy Martin has developed an extraordinary savoir-faire which consists in selecting the best grapes, the aromatically rich ones, in winemaking and distillation with cutting-edge technologies. The wines are distilled in small discontinuous copper stills twice with great patience: each distillation process takes 24 hours. From 12 kg of grapes only one liter of brandy is obtained, to be left to age in traditional oak barrels for years or decades. This is how soft, round and very elegant distillates are born, to be counted among the best and most prestigious Cognacs.
