The Pico Maccario winery was founded in 1997 in Mombaruzzo (Piedmont) on a property of 70 hectares of vineyard in the heart of the DOCG Barbera d’Asti. From the very beginning it was led by the brothers Pico and Vitaliano Maccario who chose to make it a model of modernity, both in the management of the vineyard and in the production of wines. The rose has always been the symbol of the company: 4500 single-clone rose plants have the dual function of indicating the starting point of each row and of indicating in advance, as usual, the diseases that could soon seize the screws. The presence of rose plants makes the walk between the Pico Maccario rows an experience to live.

TERRITORY

The Pico Maccario vineyards are planted in Barbera for 60 hectares, in Merlot for 4 hectares, in Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc for 2 hectares each, in Freisa and Favorita for another 2 total hectares. The Mombaruzzo hills, clayey and of medium texture, give rise to varied and balanced wines, with a modern and versatile style, produced with the aim of respecting the original characteristics of the grapes and the vineyards of origin. The refinement takes place in steel, large casks or barriques, always pursuing the direction of the maximum search for quality and respect for the original traits of the fruit. The Pico Maccario winery has always dedicated a large part of its resources to technological innovations and research in the vineyard, thanks to the conviction that any change, if well calibrated, can be the source of an ever increasing quality of wines.
