Lagavulin (La-ga-vù-lin in Gaelic) is a single malt Scotch whiskey produced on the island of Islay, off the west coast of Scotland. Belonging to the Classic Malts category, it is distributed by Diageo. The Lagavulin distillery, located in the village of the same name about five kilometers from Port Ellen, began its official activity starting in 1816. The most famous commercial product is the "16 years old", while there are some limited editions of high evaluation, among which is worth mentioning the "Distiller's Edition". Other products are "12 years old cask strength", "21 years old", "25 years old" and "30 years old". Upon visual examination, Lagavulin shows an intense golden yellow color, clearly tending to amber; on the olfactory note the salty oceanic scents stand out, mixed with the unmistakable smell of peat, very intense and equally persistent. On the palate it is alcoholic, very warm and equally full-bodied, but extremely soft and velvety, of great balance, with back-nasal return of peaty and smoke scents previously perceived by the olfactory examination. Even on the gustatory examination it shows a high intensity and persistence.
