HISTORY AND COMPANY
Segnana is a historic distillery in Trentino, active since 1860, when Paolo Segnana had the ingenuity to create a mobile apparatus for distillation, pulled by horses, to be transported from farm to farm to distill freshly pressed fresh pomace on site, as prescribed by the Austro-Hungarian law. At the end of the century a permanent headquarters was established in Borgo Valsugana, destined to become a reference point for the whole region. After more than a century of history, the Lunelli brothers, who became the main winemakers thanks to the activity of the prestigious Ferrari sparkling wine house, acquired the distillery, inaugurating its modern success. Today the Segnana distillery continues to produce grappa as it used to, using discontinuous distillation in a bain-marie in copper stills and exploiting the Surgiva mineral water from the Adamello Brenta Natural Park. Only fresh pomace from Trentino grapes used under soft pressing are used, especially Chardonnay and Pinot Nero used for the production of Ferrari sparkling wines. The intuition to adopt the Solera system for aging has led to the creation of soft, rich and elegant distillates. This system consists in the progressive filling of a pile of wooden barrels: every year half of the contents of the highest barrels are transferred to the lower ones. The Segnana grappa is an institution of the Trentino tradition, able to combine tradition and innovation but also to better express the spirit of the territory and to offer it to the most demanding distilled lovers. The story, begun over 150 years ago by the brilliant and ingenious idea of mobile stills, brilliantly continues its adventure under the guidance of the Lunelli Group, capable of enhancing a long territorial tradition made up of commitment and dedication: a history teaches how quality and excellence they derive from a close link with the past and with one's origins.
