HISTORY
Four generations for grappa, four generations to create the ultra-modern Berta di Roccanivo distillery in Casalotto di Mombaruzzo, four generations that start on 11 July 1866 with the birth of Francesco Berta. That was the time when Rome was not yet the capital, where the Expedition of the Thousand had just ended and Victor Emmanuel II was still King of Italy. It was the time of simplicity and rural life, of sacrifice and respect for traditions. Francesco Berta, as in all peasant families, has worked since he was a child in the vineyards and in the cellar, and with foresight and boldness, as soon as he grew up he looked around looking for customers to sell his product. At twenty-two he married Erminia Barbero and from their union Giovanni and 1805 were born in Michele. Respecting the peasant tradition of the time, who advised not to divide the property, Francesco decides to entrust his first-born son to the first-born Giovanni, while Michele is given the opportunity to study and graduate in pharmacy. In the thirties, therefore, Michele opened a pharmacy in Milan, while Giovanni continued his father's work, which was continued and increased by his son Paolo, with the foundation in 1947 of the first distillery in Nizza Monferrato.
